Latvian Socialist Soviet Republic (Latvijas Sociālistiskā Padomju Republika) was a state that existed from 17 December 1918 to 13 January 1920, very often being confused with the Latvian SOVIET SOCIALIST Republic that existed from 1941 to 1991. They have never issued their own postage stamps.
The first stamp has an Imperial Russian perfin cancel used as a provisional cancel dated December 18th 1918, a day after the proclamation of the state.

The stamp at the bottom has a postmark of Riga, May 20th 1919. The Germans captured the capital Riga on May 22nd 1919 and the socialist Latvians were forced to move their capital to Daugavpils, just 2 days after the postmark date!
