Danzig / Gdańsk is a city. That's a fact and we all know that. But what is not widely known is that Freie Stadt Danzig (Free City of Danzig) was technically speaking, NOT a city. It was a city state with a territory that stretched way beyond Danzig's city limit which included more than 250 towns and villages. My copy of Fischer Tom II 2010 lists a total of 96 post offices (25 of them are inside the city of Danzig itself) which makes it a very interesting subject to collect.
